Walker Consultants, Inc. wins Bronze Medal in Environmental Business Journal’s 2008 Business Achievement Awards
Dallas, TX – January 5, 2009 — Walker Consultants, Inc. dba Benchmark Environmental Consultants (Benchmark), a woman-owned, small business since 1991, was honored with the Bronze Medal for Achievement in Consulting and Engineering in the Small Firms category for the Environmental Business Journal’s 2008 Business Achievement Awards. This annual list features companies that were recognized for their performance during 2008 which turned out to be a challenging year for the environmental industry.
Benchmark’s revenues rose 36% since 2003 from $1.6 million to $2.5 million in 2008 by diversifying their customer base with strong marketing efforts. Benchmark Environmental Consultants, has evolved its regulatory driven services from the initial focus on banking, to sectors including: academia, architecture and engineering, aviation, hospitality, retail, municipal, real estate, transportation, and wireless telecom industries. Benchmark is also pursuing the wind energy sector, sustainability and LEED projects. Projects for their asbestos department doubled in the last year. Geographical coverage expanded from primarily the U.S. to international projects in Mexico and Brazil.
Benchmark Environmental Consultants specializes in Phase I ESAs, subsurface investigations, remediation, indoor air quality (asbestos, lead-paint, mold), NEPA and SHPO services, and other aspects of environmental consulting. Benchmark is a small business with headquarters located in Dallas, Texas and field offices across the U.S. including Colorado and Wyoming.
President and CEO, Kelly Walker, bases Benchmark’s achievements on core company values, a dedicated staff and management team, and diversifying into different markets. Ms. Walker makes it a priority to advocate women and minority-owned businesses by teaming up with these firms on a regular basis. In 2004, Ms. Walker was elected to her first term as a City Councilperson for the City of University Park, Texas. She currently serves as Mayor Pro Tem for University Park and recently presented strategies to make the city greener and more sustainable.
